At least it's not too far, if only thanks to the size of the town to begin with.
... ]
What made you change your mind?

[ the truth, or a lie? he finds it's not terrifically fun to lie to Lark when not for an explicit goal; could be his lack of outward reaction, could be that he does so much servile work to start with that jerking him around on a string feels too pathetic... it's the same way pulling wicked tricks on all those Mister Number-Something's from the Black Mage Village made him feel weird and empty, after a while.
maybe it's even a little bit Kuja's own growing desperation to be actually seen, in some parts, by others in general.
(plenty of people it IS a sheer joy to take on a ruse cruise, though, so this is perhaps.. not all that much growth.) ]
I was sig in bed, and eben with eberything here, I thought I might just keep getting worse and-- ugh. Ab least with being able to call for somebody...
[ it's because of the same feelings he'd shown during their last proper talk: clinginess to being witnessed. ]
Eben if I just waited it out this time, it'll habben soon enough. --Could habben, I mean.
[ if it's unclear if he's talking about dying or just being sick, well... he doesn't know either. but there's refuge in ambiguity!
Anyway, he's powered by sheer force of thanatophobia right now, Lark, he can do anything! Anything including losing his breath and lagging behind enough to make things conversationally awkward. Maybe. Maybe he will be wasteful and use some magic to get the rest of the way there. ]

So you want one for emergency use.
[ Makes sense. If he were sick, he'd also want a quick and easy way to call the doctor. Though... as he looks behind him and slows to give Kuja the opportunity to catch up, he can't help but wonder how sickness-addled Kuja's brain is to spend the time and effort seeking him out as a first priority so he can get a phone to call a doctor, instead of just directly going to a doctor himself.
... ]
You are not contagious, are you?
[ speeding up a little ]
i want to see... the forbidden lark icons.....
[ ...vivi's not human, either, but not being human didn't keep Kuja from getting sick! so, like, jury's out on the contagiousness question.
he doesn't close the gap back when Lark slows down, instead taking a moment to sigh and for once, take the time to cast Float properly instead of expending his usual extraneous power to take off like it's effortless. couple beams of yellow light and a cheery, bubbly magic sound later, and he's no longer having to move leaden limbs. he'll absolutely pay for that later, but that's true of this entire misadventure! ]
no subject
You are not contagious, though?
[ He looks over his shoulder in time to see Kuja float himself. Damn... would be real useful during those deliveries where people ask for like an entire case of wine or something. ]
MISSED THIS NOTIF
[ maybe ♥️. he's covering his face, what more do you want. ]
no subject
[ Hm!!!
He'll have to take Kuja's word for it, he supposes. With Kuja following along, Lark ducks into the train station for the unregistered phone and the blood jar. Kuja's going to have to supply his own knife or other bloodletting tool. ]
Just a drop will do. ...Please do not cut a major artery.
[ this has happened before ]
no subject
...it takes a sec for the gears to turn in his head over how to do this. He, uh actually DID expect Lark to have something to do this with, you know, FOR SOME REASON. Kuja does not own any weapons. He has never owned any weapons. He will not ever own any weapons, if he has his way.
This wouldn't be a problem if everybody hadn't TAKEN ALL OF THE SPEARS, not that Kuja knows that.Oh he does NOT want to have to leave and come back. He fishes in his pockets, eyes a little wide but playing it cool, playing it cool--
oh thank fuck he left a little travel sewing kit in one of his pockets. ]
One moment.
[ Sterilize the needle with a flick of flame, check (one more bit of magic gone that he won't be getting back until he actually gets some restful sleep, whoop dee do), swipe away the char left behind, check -- slip the needlepoint in between the ridges on a fingertip, squeeze gently toward the puncture to make it well up faster. Just a bit's enough. He uses more than this to make his Bloodstones. ]
..There.
[ and with a flick of his hand over the open top of the jar -- it's done.
.....so does
Lark just
leave the jar here,
unattended???? ]

And here is your phone. You have to register a name for it to work. You cannot change it.

damn. lark's got enough sense not to trust any of them like that. good for him. bad for kuja.Much like with his packages, Kuja puzzles over his new toy like it's the first novelty he's gotten in an age. Rectangle shaped mirror that turns into something else when woken up, three buttons... something that looks a little like bead eye off of a stuffed animal set into its back and front... a couple of indents of unidentifiable purpose. Looked like nearly every other phone he'd seen someone with. ]
Always forgib how cold these things are.
[ install genshin, you'll solve that problem. ]
Is that.. something I tell you, or tell it to the phonb? [ did lark have to sit there and listen to the words AMAGIBIGDICK69 in person. ]
no subject
You type it into the phone.
[ It should be one of the first screens to pop up when the phone is turned on. Despite better judgement, Lark pulls his scarf up over his nose and mouth and moves to stand beside Kuja so he can also see the screen. ]
The symbols on those buttons are called "letters," and when you combine multiple letters together, you create a "word."
