If he can't see who it is, however, he'll just have to wait to be approached, sitting out in the fields with the sunbathing zombies, they make good quiet company ]
no subject
Fortunately that's not on the agenda today, though, as they've had quite enough of that as of late. But he will try to sneak up from behind and drop his hands on his shoulders, leaning forward a tad as he looks down at him. ]
Now, Crow-san, you really must find yourself some more lively company!
[ The zombies are plenty alive of course, but they're fairly passive (or perhaps it's just that Hiyori has a more lively personality than most.) ]
no subject
Perhaps he should work on not being so easy to sneak up on, nose in his book and mind lost in another world entirely until he feels the weight on his shoulders that bring him back to the present. Hiyori is lucky Crow isn't jumpy, and doesn't smash the top of his head against Hiyori's chin or break his nose or something, but instead takes his time lowering his book and looking up, needing a moment to reorient to an upside down face. ]
Hello, Hiyori. Are you offering yourself to me?
no subject
It's the exact reaction he'd expect from a doting father, and in particular one who's been around for so long. The inhabitants of this town can be quite energetic, reactive, and in Hiyori's case people who pick and choose when they'll pay mind to a person's boundaries. Right now he seems content to lean in a little closer, his hair falling over his shoulder. ]
Why, of course! That is, if I wouldn't be interrupting...
[ He lifts himself back up, patting the man's shoulders before he lets his hands drop to his side. ]
no subject
[ He was at a good part in his book but— no, it's fine. It'll still be there later, and the anticipation keeps him looking forward to returning to the book, so he tries not to appear so reluctant to mark his place and shut the cover, pushing off a knee to stand. ]
Are we having lemon tarts?
no subject
[ Should he have waited longer? That's unfortunate for Hiyori, who normally has better timing. But his features soften into a mild amusement when he doesn't admit to it. ]
Forgive me for taking you away from your story. Shall I join you next time instead? I could sit next to you, though... Hm, I'd block your vision leaning over, wouldn't I? Then, I'll read over your shoulder instead.
no subject
[ Or whatever the spooning equivalent of sitting is. Either way, it can be awkward and uncomfortable, particularly with two people whose reading speeds differ. ]
Reading is a fine hobby to have in solitude, but with a friend, I enjoy a good conversation. What have you been up to lately, Hiyori? Has Robin enlisted you yet? You've really impressed her, from what I hear.
no subject
I'm honored by her praise, and I'm ever at her disposal. Still, I should say that she seems happy to be in the conductor's cabin once more.
[ As opposed to being trapped in an endless loop. ]
I'm ever at her disposal, but I've found that the clinic is enough to keep my busy. It's gotten quite lively as of late, and however many careers I dabble in, I do believe I'll always be a doctor first.
no subject
[ maybe Hiyori could do something about those zombies out there? ]
If you ever need anything, be it manpower or resources, please do let me know.
no subject
[ He shakes his head. That's getting away from what he's looking to say. ]
You need to take better care of yourself too, hmm? Otherwise you'll have people digging through all your personal possessions after being used for somebody's science experiment.
[ Or whatever other reason a person might have to leave him incapacitated. Boredom, maybe. ]
no subject
[ Is that why he died? for a science experiment? hopefully the scientist got the results they were looking for, and aren't planning for future trials. more data points, or something ]
Getting murdered isn't something I make a habit of, but all the same, there's a reason I do not keep anything particularly important on my person. That, and I may not be so lucky next time, to return to you.
no subject
Hm? But as long as your gem is in tact your body should be able to heal, correct? In... One way or another.
[ He glances back at the zombies. That's not quite how anyone would like to come back, but regardless. ]
no subject
[ also he'd given his gem to Maggie, he's surprised the girl hasn't already lost or shattered it by accident ]
no subject
[ He trails off briefly, a slight frown appearing on his face, ]
If they grow numb to the idea, though, won't it make it all that much easier for them to harm those around them?
[ There's a blank space, an itch in the back of his mind that makes his head hurt, and he thinks that even he would be capable of immense cruelty if only he were exposed to enough of it... No, not even that. He was raised to be a leader, so he would do what he needed to in order to protect the majority. ]
no subject
Yes... I know how easily twisted it can be for murder and harm to come from a place of benevolence. Death as a deliverance to those who are suffering, watered down to nothing more than deep sleep before a new day.
[ He closes his eyes. Opens them. ]
Am I correct in believing you are part of an ethics committee? It is a very interesting topic for discussion, and I believe many would benefit from it.
no subject
Yes, that's right, though it's more akin to a group of scientists than philosophers. Still, as you said, I'm certain the discussion would be quite lively. If I were to hazard a guess, most would settle on consequentialism, as science is little more than doing great harm in the name of an even greater good.
[ So they can do freakish things like growing hearts. ]
Have you ever killed anyone?
no subject
[ "Answer the question, Crow." No he will not. ]
As a doctor, you have surely faced this dilemma: you do all you can to save a patient, but they die in the end, whether it be because of an error, hastiness, hesitation, lapse in judgement. Perhaps it was a lost cause to begin with, but you still wanted to try. Perhaps it was a lost cause, and you make the call to cease treatment and prevent further suffering. Is that patient's death on your hands?
[ Is there a difference between killing someone, and letting them die? ]
so sorry my rp burnout has been real.....
[ It's a harsher answer than most would give, but perhaps a more honest one. There are few who would hit the wrong key on the piano or skew their lines that would say it "wasn't their fault." But that doesn't mean a person has to drown themselves in guilt over it either.
There it is - the quaint little clinic that he had set up. There's a little room toward the back with all the amenities he needs, decorated in warm colors. ]
I do make every effort to avoid finding myself in that position, though I've found it's harder to avoid in a place such as this.
[ It's pretty primitive. ]
clasps hands... me only existing every other week
...I am glad there is a doctor like you here, now. Somehow, it is difficult for people to take care of themselves.
[ He turns away from the walls and turns to Hiyori. ]
Do you have somebody to take care of you?
clasps ur hands!!! when will we be free from life obligations........
[ That's not quite right in his case; he was raised to be able to do anything. Hiyori is the golden child of his generation, but there's no need to puff his chest out like a rooster and laud over . That's just tasteless.
He fills the kettle with water and places it atop the stove, turning it on before he looks through the cabinets for his tea of choice. There's no one who really looks out for him, none that can when he's looking out for them instead, but that's not sad at all; it means he's never been lonely. ]
The residents of this town look out for one another, [ He adds in answer, ] And so I never have to worry... Ahaha, I was quite fortunate to have others to assist me with the matter of the train.
[ There's a hit of nerves to his laugh. He hasn't forgotten navigating through a boundless void, nor how it appeared in a volcano. It was quite the experience. ]
