GENERAL OVERVIEW
The setting is a small rustic town nestled between lots and lots of water on one side, and lots and lots of trees on the other, with a set of train tracks snaking through the center of town. Modern conveniences such as electricity and running water exist, although most NPCs prefer to work by candlelight and draw water from wells. Overall, the buildings and clothing found around town tend towards simple and handmade, with houses made of stone or wood and clothing sewn for function rather than style, although occasionally, out of place items can be found in NPC possession.
Odd looking plants and animals can be found throughout the surrounding wilderness, with questionable edibility. The few gardens in people's yards seem to be overgrown with weeds and other signs of disregard, although the occasional tiny carrot or beet can be found. Wild fruit trees towards the fields in the north bear small, sour fruit. Animals never seem to have the correct number of eyes or limbs, and while they roam freely in the forest and lake, they sometimes can be spotted around town with little fear of people.
From sundown to sunrise, a thick fog rolls through town from the lake, obscuring the stars above so that only the moon dimly glows within a night sky of black. At night, the streets are devoid of NPCs and the town and surrounding areas take on monstrous transformations that constantly shift and morph as characters move about town, seemingly returning to normal when in closer proximity. For a visual representation, please refer to this video (tw: eyes). Just your eyes playing tricks. Nothing dangerous. Characters are able to roam around at night with little to no consequence, and those with canon powers will find their abilities unhindered, as they are slightly dampened during the day.

WILDERNESS
The forest to the left of town is densely packed with trees, making it difficult to navigate even during the day. There is the constant sense of being watched while in the forest, and characters may find the typical woodland creatures— just mutated in some way. Wolves and bears may hunt unsuspecting wanderers, but the animals in general leave people alone until given reason otherwise.
The water to the right is as wide as the ocean and stretches to the horizon, but is said to be a lake due to the lack of waves. On windless days, the surface of the water is perfectly still, reflecting the above like a mirror. Several rudimentary rowboats are moored at the shoreline, and these little crabs with vice grip claws like to hide in the sand.
Towards the north are fields of dry grass overgrown to shoulder height. The dirt here is soft, and soaks up water like a bog when it rains. A graveyard stands in the middle of the fields, with a collection of headstones too densely packed together, weathered smooth and rendered illegible. Amongst the gravestones is a small building the size of a garage, which seems to be a church inside. There is a large brass bell in a tower above the church accessible from the outside, able to be rung by hand.

RAILROAD
Train tracks pass though town, with a train station located near the outskirts in the middle of a wide plaza. Gatherings frequently take place at the plaza due to the open space, and since it is a central location, the station doubles as a town hall where characters may register and receive a phone for keeping in contact with others. Every once in a while the train will pass through to deliver requested supplies and/or drop off new arrivals; OOCly, some bonus regains may arrive via train.
RESIDENTIAL DISTRICT
The southern side of town is where housing is primarily located, although houses can be found scattered throughout town. Most houses are simple and seem to have been constructed by hand, but may feature bits and pieces of styles from around the world as roofs and walls are slowly replaced over time. There are three established buildings for communal living, each styled after residence halls:
Aconite Hall is one of the largest halls, although the plainest by design, as it is reminiscent of a bachelors pad the size of an auditorium. There is one general living space with bedding and furniture spread out in a single open room, great for residents who like sleepovers. There is little to no privacy in this hall, but the NPC residents are friendly and sociable.
Datura Hall is much the opposite of Aconite and more like traditional apartment units within the same building. Each unit consists of a single room that triples as the bedroom/living room/kitchen, and a small private bathroom. This hall is good for people who prefer their own space, as each unit can comfortable fit only one or two people, and the NPC residents here are the quiet sort who keep to themselves.
Poppy Hall is a misnomer, and is actually a collection of small houses with a shared yard in dire need of weeding. A compromise between Aconite and Datura, this hall works for people who prefer living alone but with a convenient place to gather.
In order to enter these halls, a person must present their phone (received upon registering at the train station) to the scanner on the front doors, although tagalongs are allowed in as long as the door is open. A shared outdoors generator provides electricity for the halls.

OTHER
There is no public school building; instead, characters may find small "trade schools" in which a professional may take on apprentices to teach them baking, sewing, metalwork, taxes, whatever. The closest thing to traditional schooling would be the library, which consists of miscellaneous books from different worlds, time periods, and languages. According to NPCs, sometimes troublemakers are sent off to a sketchy highschool located in the middle of the mountains for rehabilitation.
Several marketplaces can be found around town, and despite the fact that you don't necessarily need to eat to survive, food stalls are particularly common. The NPCs function on a barter system rather than using currency, and accept payment in items, favors, or information. There are plenty of abandoned buildings and stalls for characters to start their own businesses if desired.
The post office delivers both letters and packages, and may deliver things anonymously at the request of the sender. This service is useful for people who need a middleman while keeping identities unknown, those suspicious of the town registration and/or those with the patience to wait the time it takes to relay messages back and forth great distances, and those who do not like heavy lifting. OOCly, some bonus regains may be anonymous gifts.
